Teenage child sex offender spared prison

A TEENAGE sex offender who preyed on younger children was spared a jail sentence after a judge told him he considered it was important he continued to get treatment.

The youth, who cannot be identified, admitted sexually assaulting one young victim at a property in Dundee on November 15 2014.

He also pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting another child when he was asleep at another house in the city earlier that year.

At the High Court in Edinburgh today, a judge told him he would impose a community payback order on him for 19 months during which time he would have to reside at an education centre and be under supervision.

Nigel Morrison QC said: “The community payback order is a punishment that requires you to pay back to the community for the offences you have committed and it is an alternative to a custodial sentence.

“It will enable you to receive and complete the programme which you are currently undertaking.

“I think it is important you continue to receive the treatment that you are receiving.”

He said that if there was a failure to comply with the requirements of the order it could be revoked and the teenager could be sent to prison.

Advocate depute Jane Farquharson said the teenage offender was currently at a school where therapeutic work can take place.

The prosecutor said the teenager, a first offender, had had “a chaotic life” at his family home in Dundee and after making an allegation that he was assaulted by a family member was removed from the house.

The court heard that the first sex attack was witnessed by another child.

Man emailed revenge porn images of woman

A man sent sexual pictures of a woman to someone else after hacking her email accounts.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Gordon Sime sent an explicit picture of the woman’s private parts to a man on a website via the victim’s email address.

He then added the woman’s phone number and asked the man to text the number if he “liked” the pictures.

Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson told the court that the woman first became aware of Sime’s actions in April 2014.

She reported the incident to police. Sime’s home was searched and a laptop and phone seized.

The fiscal continued: “The email sent to the man, containing the photographs, had been sent from this laptop.”

The court heard that Sime was also spotted outside the woman’s home on two occasions.

At court today Sime, of Campbeltown, Argyll, admitted one charge of engaging in a course of conduct which caused the woman fear and alarm on various occasions between September 1 2013 and April 28 2014, at an address in Errol, a property in Dundee and elsewhere.

Sentence was deferred until February 10 for reports.

Stalker strangled ex-partner in front of child

A MAN strangled a woman in front of a child and then went on to stalk her.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard the youngster “gently shook her” for a few minutes before she awoke “dazed and confused”.

The court heard the woman did not report the incident to police as she was too “frightened” but she did so when the man began stalking her.

Brian Edwards, 29, of Perth Prison, admitted one charge of assault and a second charge of stalking.

Fiscal depute Vicki Bell told the court the assault took place at a property in Dundee during an argument between Edwards and the woman.

The fiscal said: “She was on one side of the bed and he was on the other. He climbed over the bed and grabbed the complainer and placed her in a headlock.

“She tried to get away but was unable to overcome his strength. He said, ‘You’re going night-nights,’ and she lost consciousness.”

The woman’s child came into the bedroom and saw the woman in a headlock, which he described as a “sleeper hold”.

The fiscal said: “The child thought she was dead as she just slumped to the floor.

“The accused left the room.

“The child went over and gently shook her and after a few minutes she awoke and saw her child and the accused standing over her.”

Later the woman began receiving text messages and calls from Edwards and changed her phone number.

Edwards then called her from a mutual friend’s phone and repeatedly from a withheld number.

That same day she received 48 text messages from Edwards and three days later she received 140 text messages from him.

During the messages he called her offensive names and made threats of violence to her.

The following month she received three letters from Edwards from Perth Prison and at that point she contacted the police.

Edwards, previously of Arklay Street, admitted one charge of assault to injury, between July 1 and September 24 last year, at a property in Dundee, and a second charge of engaging in a course of conduct which placed a woman in a state of fear and alarm, between July 1 and November 5 last year.

His sentence was deferred until February 26.

A shop worker has admitted taking £2,500 from the tills in the space of a month.

Aaran Hill, 30, of Craigmount Road, had sentence deferred until February 12 at Dundee Sheriff Court.

Hill admitted embezzling from Marks & Spencer, Murraygate, Dundee, while he was employed as a sales assistant there, between June 1 and July 7 last year.

The court heard he was observed on CCTV taking money from the tills in sums of around £100-150 at time. He was interview by police and failed to give a reason as to why he was taking the cash.

Masked gunmen jailed for robbing teenagers in woods

Three masked gunmen who robbed a group of teenagers who were camping in a Dundee wood, were jailed at the city’s sheriff court today.

Kieran McIntyre, 20, Liam Scott, 19, and Adam Parkin, 19, were all jailed for 18 months when they appeared for sentence. All three had previously admitted taking part in the armed attack which took place in March 2014.

Sentencing the three, Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC, told the men she considered the offences to be very serious.

“So serious that all of you will receive a custodial sentence for this offence,” said Sheriff Drummond.

All three were jailed for 18 months, reduced from 24 months for early pleas on a charge of robbing four teenagers aged 14 and 15 between March 7 and 8, 2014 at Baldragon Woods. Sheriff Drummond restricted the sentence on McIntyre of Clepington Street, Scott of Eden Street and Parkin of St Dennis Terrace to 18 months.

Sheriff Drummond further sentenced Scott and Parkin to another 24 months each, again reduced to 18 months for a charge of having an air rifle on the same date and location.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

The court previously heard that the three dressed in camouflage clothing and armed with air rifles robbed the teenagers as they camped in the woods near Clatto Reservoir.

The court was told that the men shone torches into the boys tent and demanded they get out.

They then made the boys sit on rocks while they pointed air rifles at them, shone torches in their faces and robbed them.

The four teenagers had pitched a tent before going to bed around 11pm on the night the offence occurred.

Around midnight they were wakened by noises which they thought was people rummaging through their bags which had been left outside the tent.

Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson had told the court that a torch was shone into the tent and Scott said words similar to: “Are you getting up then?”

“Get out of the tent.” Three of the boys got out of the tent but one stayed inside sleeping.

Parkin held a torch in their faces and pointed a rifle towards them and said: “Run and you will get shot.”

Parkin then demanded the fourth boy get out of the tent and said: “I’m giving you 30 seconds to get out of here or I’ll blow your head off.” The boys handed over £5, mobile phones and cigarettes.

One boy said his phone was in the tent and Parkin pressed the barrel of the gun into the back of his head and told him to get it.

The three men then told the boys not to leave before sunrise as they were watching and they would be shot if they tried it. The boys waited until morning before leaving.

Sheriff Drummond said it must have been a terrifying experience for those boys.

“They have been left in fear of their lives and I consider this to be a very serious matter,” said the sheriff.

Sheriff wants pub shut after CCTV showed attack victim ignored by staff

A SHERIFF called for a pub to be shut down – after horror CCTV footage showed bar staff walking around a man who had been brutally attacked and left seriously hurt on the floor instead of helping him.

Brian Borland had gone out for a birthday drink – and ended up viciously attacking his former brother-in-law and leaving him horrifically injured on the floor of the Windsor Bar in Dundee’s Albert Street.

Borland snapped after his victim, Thomas Montgomery, had wound him up about his ex-wife.

CCTV footage showed Borland suddenly stand up and rip off his jacket before launching a vicious attack.

He first punched Mr Montgomery to the ground before turning his attention on his drinking companion, punching him to the floor.

As Mr Montgomery lay stunned and barely moving on the floor, Borland returned to land repeated punches on his head before stamping on his head.

The sickening attack then continued as he again hit the other man who was trying to get back to his feet.

The video then shows Borland leave the bar, leaving both men flat on their backs.

Fiscal depute Nicola Gillespie told Dundee Sheriff Court that, incredibly, staff at the pub didn’t call police or an ambulance.

The film then shows a barmaid walking round Mr Montgomery as he lay prone on the floor without rendering any assistance at all.

A sheriff said: “This place should be closed down – it seems remarkable no-one comes to his aid.”

Miss Gillespie said: “The complainers then leave the bar and get into a taxi.

“The driver is so concerned by their presentation that he contacts police and an ambulance.

“Mr Montgomery is taken to Ninewells Hospital by ambulance and was found to have three facial fractures.

“He continues to suffer as a result of this attack, with numbness and pain to his lip in particular.”

Borland, 52, a prisoner at HMP Perth, pleaded guilty on indictment to a charge of assault to severe injury committed on October 14 last year.

Paul Parker Smith, defending, said: “This happened on his birthday – he had gone for a drink with his friend and was in good humour.

“Mr Montgomery is not someone he would wish to be in the company of.

“He engaged Mr Borland in conversation and that resulted in Mr Montgomery saying something that was a form of threat.

“The constant sniping over a period of time resulted in him just completely losing his temper.”

Sheriff George Way deferred sentence until next month for social work background reports and remanded Borland in custody meantime.

He said: “With an outburst of this nature and having seen the severity of it without any question there will be a custodial sentence here.

“They were both down and out and he continued to viciously attack them.”

Dundee brothel gang smashed in raid on people traffickers

Police today revealed how they snared an organised crime group who were trafficking people around Tayside for prostitution.

Jose Barbosa pocketed more than £150,000 from the scheme, which involved recruiting women from London and bringing them up to Scotland to work from nine separate flats, including Malcolm Street, Dundee, and Atholl Street, Perth.

The father-of-two was jailed for three years in October and his partner Ana Calder was due to be sentenced yesterday but it was deferred.

Barbosa used an alias, a Spanish ID card and a fake employers’ letter to rent out properties, which he would then sub-let to the prostitutes.

Barbosa and Calder were investigated as part of Operation Wolfberry and then detained by police on May 15 at their home in Kirkcaldy while their flats around Scotland were raided by more than 60 officers.

Detective Inspector Paul Grainger, of the Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit, revealed how Barbosa, originally from Brazil, operated his illegal business.

He said: “People were only staying in these flats for a week or two and then Barbosa was moving them around.

“Some were from Brazil and some from Europe — mainly Spain and Portugal. But most had a Brazilian or Mediterranean background.

“A lot of the people recruited we think were already in the United Kingdom, maybe working in London and then being approached by Calder and Barbosa.

“Then they were trafficked into Scotland and around the country.

“To get clients, they used websites that seem to host sex industry activity.”

To build up enough evidence against Barbosa, undercover officers were deployed in Dundee and elsewhere, as well as intense behind-the-scenes work in checking his finances. DI Grainger said: “Various tactics were employed to gather evidence including surveillance, deployment of undercover officers and financial inquiry.

“Within the OCCTU we had a dedicated team that took this on as well as Police Scotland’s local divisions where the activity was happening, the Police Scotland Human Trafficking Team, the Internet Investigation Unit, Borders Policing Command and the Financial Investigation Team.

“Our main day of action was on May 15. On that day, we visited nine flats throughout the central belt of Scotland, from Dundee all the way to Dumfries.

“We engaged with all the  people in those flats who were  victims of trafficking.

“On the same day we  attended a flat in Kirkcaldy where Barbosa and Calder had been living.

“They were detained and interviewed about their activity.

“There was a real level of organisation with what they were doing. There is no doubt that trafficking is an extremely serious crime where victims suffer real harm and Calder and Barbosa were both fully engaged in this crime.”

One of the police’s newest focuses was to support those who had been victims of crime.

DI Grainger added: “We were very victim focused on that day of action when we went into all these different premises.

“We can’t force people to engage with us but we offered all  of them support mainly through the Trafficking Awareness Raising Alliance (TARA).

“Two took that offer of support, others chose not to.

“With the whole nature of human trafficking, victims don’t always feel they’re being  controlled or coerced through  economic means or otherwise.

“That’s the challenge police have to overcome to make them realise they have been victims of trafficking.”

One man, 38, has been charged with assault while another male, a 19-year-old, has been charged with wasting police time.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said today: “A 19-year-old man has been charged with wasting police time on Saturday January 23.

“A 38-year-old man has been charged with assault in connection with that incident and will be appearing at Dundee Sheriff Court today.”

Ex-Dundee owner Jimmy Marr cleared of pub attack on OAP

Former Dundee FC owner Jimmy Marr walked free from court today after being found not guilty of assaulting a 75-year-old woman.

Marr was charged with throwing two drinks over the elderly woman and punching her husband and head butting her friend when they intervened.

The incident was alleged to have happened at a pub owned by Marr’s company, High Corner Bar, on Kinghorn Road, on May 30 last year.

Today at court Sheriff Alistair Carmichael said too much of the evidence did “not fit together” and therefore found Marr not guilty.

Margaret Morrell, 75, told the trial the incident happened at a charity night being held in the pub in aid of Macmillan cancer nurses.

She said Marr’s wife, Karen, had gone to stand on their table to dance and was spilling wine from a glass she was holding over them.

Mrs Morrell said she asked Mrs Marr to stop and Marr said “She can do what she wants, it’s my pub”.

She said Marr then threw a drink over her and told her to “get out” before throwing another drink over her.

Mrs Morrell’s husband Patrick, 65, who also gave evidence at the trial, said he intervened and was punched by Marr, causing him to fall to the ground.

William Dunn, 60, a friend of the Morrells, also gave evidence saying he too tried to intervene and was head butted by Marr.

Marr, 55, of South Drive, Liff, denied three charges and disputed their claims during trial.

Giving evidence in his own defence, Marr said he had gone to the pub to support the fundraiser.

He said he had intervened when one of the men had pushed his wife’s leg as she went on a table to dance.

Marr denied pouring the drinks or attacking the two men, saying he “went to over to see if she was ok”.

He said: “One of them said it was out of order and got aggressive and went to head me.

“I grabbed him, birled him round and put him out.

“There was then a lot of pushing and shoving and I ended up on the floor.”

Solicitor Jim Laverty, defending, said: “The allegation is that he acted like a common thug and in my submission this is not the way in which he behaves.

“He went to the charity event out of duty, having been elsewhere.

“He gave evidence of having consumed only half a bottle of wine. Other Crown witnesses had been there around four hours, which could affect their perception of events and recollection of what happened.”

Mr Laverty added that Marr gave his evidence in a “coherent and fluent” manner.

Jimmy Marr’s relief at being cleared of pub attack on OAP

FORMER Dundee FC owner Jimmy Marr today said he was delighted to walk free from court after he was cleared of assaulting a 75-year-old woman.

Mr Marr was charged with throwing two drinks over the elderly woman and also punching her husband and head butting her friend when they intervened.

The assaults are alleged to have happened at a pub owned by Marr’s company, the High Corner, on Kinghorn Road.

But at court, Sheriff Alistair Carmichael said too much of evidence did “not fit together” and found Marr not guilty on all three charges.

Speaking to the Tele today after court, Mr Marr said he was “delighted” and “relieved” with the verdict.

He added: “I always believed completely that I was not guilty of the charges laid against me. Yes, I was in the High Corner that night for a charity event raising a good bit of money for the Macmillan Nurses but I was accused of things that simply did not take place.

“I have been in the licensed trade running pubs and clubs for 30 years and it was awful to have my character assassinated but justice has been served and I was able to leave court with my head held high.

“I just want to move on and put this behind me. But remember that this has not only been hanging over me since May, it has also affected my wife and family too.

“I’m hugely grateful for all the support I’ve received from my family, friends, customers and I’m just glad it’s all over.”

The incident happened on May 30 last year.

Marr denied pouring the drinks on Margaret Morrell, 75, and attacking the two men, saying he “went to over to see if she was ok”and said: “One of them said it was out of order and got aggressive and went to head me. I grabbed him, birled him round and put him out. There was then a lot of pushing and shoving and I ended up on the floor.”

Solicitor Jim Laverty, defending, said: “The allegation is that he acted like a common thug and in my submission this is not the way in which he behaves.

“He went to the charity event out of duty, having been elsewhere. He gave evidence of having consumed only half a bottle of wine. Other Crown witnesses had been there around four hours, which could affect their perception of events and recollection of what happened.”

Mr Laverty added Marr gave his evidence in a “coherent and fluent” manner.

Men sentenced for £135k heroin haul

Two men were jailed for four years each on Wednesday after police made seizures of heroin worth more than £130,000 following two separate police raids in Dundee.

David Lynn was found with almost a kilo of the Class A drug with a potential value of £98,000.

Officers stopped his car on the A90 as he ferried the consignment heroin to the city.

A separate raid by police on the same day at a house in Kingsway East, Dundee, caught Paul Crerar with a quantity of heroin that had the potential to make £37,000 from street sales.

Crerar, 46, who is unemployed, admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin.

The offence took place on Wednesday October 7 last year at Kingsway East and elsewhere.

He had previously been jailed for drugs offences.

Lynn, 49, who told police he was of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of the drug on the same date on the A90 near the city’s Gourdie Croft.

A judge told both men that they would have faced sentences of six years imprisonment if it had not been for their guilty pleas.

Lady Scott told Lynn he had been transporting heroin with “a significant street value” from Glasgow to Dundee.

Advocate depute Stewart Ronnie told the High Court in Edinburgh that Lynn was stopped by police officers and asked about the drugs he had in his possession in the car.

Lynn had indicated that he had received a bag that morning.

Defence solicitor advocate Rhonda Anderson, for Lynn, said: “He genuinely regrets his involvement.”

She added that Lynn had expressed “disgust” at his behaviour.

Jonathan Crowe, counsel for Crerar, said he had first taken drugs while at school.

Crerar had then gone to smoke heroin.

A series of tragic incidents in his life had led to him returning to use the drug and he had got into debt, Mr Crowe told the court.

He added that Crerar had been “put upon” to look after the heroin he was caught with.

Being in possession of a Class A drug with an intent to supply carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Man who hit OAP with basket in Tesco could be admonished

A man who hit an 83-year-old double amputee with a shopping basket was today told he might be admonished for the crime.

Sheriff Alistair Carmichael told Murray Dewar, 45, that if he was of good behaviour until April he would likely be admonished for the offence.

Dewar, of Hepburn Street, Dundee, previously admitted assaulting Jack Wemyss by striking him on the head with a shopping basket to his injury at Tesco, Strathmartine Road, on November 20 last year.

The court heard that an argument broke out between the two after Dewar blocked the path of Mr Wemyss’s mobility scooter.

Dewar then hit the elderly man in the face with a basket, leaving him with a cut above his left eye.

Fiscal depute Muhammad Sadiq told the court that police later issued CCTV of images of Dewar, who then handed himself in.

Today at court Sheriff Carmichael said: “I’ve read the social work report very carefully and I’ve looked at the circumstances of the case.

“It seems to be that this is a one-off and I want you to show me that it is.

“If you are of good behaviour you will most likely be admonished — that’s simply a warning.”

Last month Jack, a retired builder, told of the agony he suffered as a result.

Sentence was deferred until April 28.

A MAN has been charged after he allegedly broke into a room at a Dundee hotel, stole car keys then nicked a vehicle from the car park.

John Forbes, 35, of no fixed abode, appeared in private at Dundee Sheriff Court.

He made no plea or declaration in relation to eight charges on petition.

Forbes allegedly broke into one of the rooms at Best Western’s Invercarse Hotel, on Perth Road, on Monday.

It is alleged that he stole a number of items from the room, including car keys, before stealing a vehicle from the hotel’s car park.

He then allegedly committed a number of road traffic offences, including colliding with a car at Ettrick Crescent and failing to stop and provide his personal details.

And he also allegedly stole a purse from Tay Mills on Brown Street — which contains student accommodation — on the same date.

The case was continued for further investigation and Forbes was remanded meantime.

The hotel is one of three in the Dundee area run by local firm Redwood Leisure.

The others are the Best Western Woodlands Hotel, on Panmure Terrace in Broughty Ferry, and the Birkhill Inn on Coupar Angus Road.

Martina Whiting, a director at the company, confirmed that hotel staff had helped police with inquiries following the alleged break-in and theft.

She said: “We can confirm a person allegedly gained unauthorised access into the hotel.”

Ms Whiting said that there had been an alleged theft involving the belongings of a guest, as well as a vehicle from the hotel’s car park.

She added that CCTV footage had been recorded at the hotel, which was subsequently passed to police.

A SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD girl headbutted and repeatedly punched a police officer in a court building.

The teenager — who cannot be named for legal reasons — carried out the assault on PC Gwen Louden at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday.

The incident took place after the teen was ejected from the public gallery during yesterday’s custody court.

PC Louden and PC Thomas Anderson moved to arrest her.

Describing the incident, one eyewitness said: “PC Anderson was holding the youth on her left side.

“PC Louden was holding her on the right in the reception area of the court building.

“The youth headbutted PC Louden then punched her on the face.

“She tried to punch her again.

“PC Anderson grabbed her hand and all three of them fell to the ground.

“There was a bit of struggling on the ground before she was restrained and arrested by both constables.”

It is believed PC Louden then attended Accident and Emergency at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

She suffered facial swelling and a suspected cheekbone fracture.

The teenager appeared in today’s custody court in Dundee.

She was tearful and red-faced as she sat in the dock.

The girl admitted one charge against her of assaulting PC Louden by headbutting her on the face.

The teenager also repeatedly punched PC Louden on the head and face, to her injury, at Dundee Sheriff Court on January 28.

Solicitor David Duncan, defending, told the court that his client was currently subject to a community payback order.

Mr Duncan urged Sheriff Alistair Carmichael to call for social work reports due to her age.

He also called on Sheriff Carmichael to review the progress of the community payback order.

Sheriff Carmichael said: “I’m going to continue this case in order to get an update on how you’re doing with your community payback order and to get an updated criminal justice and social work report.”

Sentence was deferred until February 26.

The accused was granted bail meantime.

Ex-teacher found with second child porn stash

An ex-teacher has been found with a stash of child porn for the second time.

Robert Lightband, who was a senior history teacher at Menzieshill High School, avoided a jail term in 2002 when he was found with a folder filled with images of children.

But now Lightband, of Clepington Road, has been caught downloading indecent images over the course of a nine-month period in 2014 and 2015.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard he had been “taking or making” the pictures over a period between June 16 2014 and February 25 last year.

Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson said Lightband – who is also listed online as an “organ adviser” for the Church of Scotland – had one previous conviction, his earlier child porn offence.

Lightband, 69, pleaded guilty on indictment to a charge of taking or making indecent photographs of children between June 16 2014 and February 25 2015.

John Boyle, defending, said: “He is currently subject to stringent bail conditions regarding his internet use and that is causing him difficulties.

“Before he was charged he did his shopping and banking online and he has had to rely on the goodwill of friends to help.

“He expects there will be Press coverage of this case and he would like to keep a low profile so asks that the condition stopping him using the internet is lifted.”

Sheriff Alistair Carmichael deferred sentence until next week for the Crown to provide a full narrative of the facts of the case.

He said: “In light of the plea and his previous conviction I will not remove the bail condition.”

Lightband was sacked from Menzieshill High School and his civic role as Dundee’s official organist after his previous stash came to light in 2002.

The photos were discovered by a cleaner who stumbled on the folder on a bedroom dresser as she worked.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard she found a folder containing between 80-90 indecent images.

Fiscal Keith O’Mahony said the cleaner was so disturbed she told her husband and they contacted the police.

When officers searched his house, Lightband denied all knowledge of the images.

But he eventually directed them to a cupboard where the folder was found.

Thug, 24, jailed for punching girlfriend in street

A yob who punched his girlfriend unconscious following an attack in the city centre has been locked up for 17 months.

Andrew Adamson, 24, was jailed at Dundee Sheriff Court after admitting assault and aggressive behaviour towards police.

The court heard that after punching his girlfriend, who fell to the ground, apparently unconscious, Adamson then began shouting “disgusting”, violent and sexual threats at police and their family members.

Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson told the court Adamson first came to the attention of police when he was observed on CCTV at Commercial Street, at 2.20am on November 2 last year, in the company of his partner Jane Small.

The fiscal said: “Ms Small ran towards the accused and he forcibly pushed her to the ground, punching her in the face.

“She landed on the ground and appeared on camera to be unconscious.”

When officers arrived Ms Small was said to be regaining consciousness.

Police noted she appeared distressed. However, Ms Small refused to provide a statement and refused medical treatment.

Adamson was traced nearby five minutes later and immediately became aggressive towards police officers as they moved to arrest him.

He began to shout and swear and made threats to the officers and their family members. The threats were of a violent and sexual nature and were repeatedly made to officers on the scene and later at the charge bar area of headquarters.

Solicitor Paul Parker Smith, defending, told the court Adamson and Ms Small had both drank alcohol and had an argument in a pub, before Adamson left the premises.

Mr Parker Smith said: “She then followed him and he was annoyed by that and accepts that he punched her once.

“In the cold light of sobriety, it is something he regrets but he cannot turn back the clock.”

Adamson, of Perth Prison, admitted assaulting his partner Jane Small by punching her on the face, knocking her to the ground, rendering her unconscious.

He further admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by making threats of violence towards police officers and their families.

Sheriff Carmichael said: “Because of the nature of this assault as seen on CCTV and the highly inappropriate things you said to police officers, I have concluded the only appropriate sentence is one of imprisonment.”

Man attacked friends who shaved off his eyebrow

A MAN attacked four of his friends — after they shaved off one of his eyebrows at a party.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Colin McComiskie, 22, punched, slapped and pushed his friends when he awoke to find one of his eyebrows missing.

The court heard the attack took place after McComiskie, of Tannadice Court, had drunkenly fallen asleep at his friend Craig Nicoll’s home at The Aspens.

Friends Michael Ringsell, Kyle Patterson and Stacey Patterson were also there and the group drank alcohol together.

Fiscal depute Muhammad Sadiq told the court: “The accused had fallen asleep and when he woke up at 5am he noticed one of his eyebrows had been shaved.

“He became angry and aggressive towards all witnesses in the room.

“He assaulted Mr Ringsell, repeatedly punched him on the head and body and knocked him to the ground.

“Mr Nicoll attempted to stop him but the accused punched him on the head.

“Mr Patterson attempted to speak to the accused and asked him to calm down but the accused slapped him and punched him on the head.”

Ms Patterson also attempted to intervene but McComiskie pushed her, causing her to fall to the floor.

Solicitor David Duncan, defending, said: “He was due to go to work that day and when he awoke to find his eyebrow missing, he was worried he would lose his job.

“That, together with the amount of alcohol he had consumed, caused him to react in this way. He accepts he shouldn’t have reacted like that.”

McComiskie admitted four charges of assault, all of which took place on April 19, at a property on The Aspens.

He admitted assaulting Michael Ringsell by repeatedly punching him on the head and body and knocking him to the ground.

McComiskie also admitted assaulting Craig Nicoll by punching him on the head.

He further admitted assaulting Kyle Patterson by repeatedly slapping him and punching him on the head.

And he admitted assaulting Stacey Patterson by pushing her on the body, causing her to fall.

Sentence was deferred until February 24 for reports and assessments.

A woman walked into a Dundee shop, placed a baby in a pram, and then pushed the pram out of the shop.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard the pram Terri Ewan, 31, stole from Toys R Us was worth £300.

Fiscal depute Muhammad Sadiq told the court the theft took place on April 25 last year.

The fiscal said: “Staff at Toys R Us noticed a pram was no longer on display and searched the shop for it.

“They couldn’t find it anywhere. CCTV was reviewed and the accused was seen to enter the locus holding a baby, place the baby in the pram and thereafter leave the locus with the pram.”

Solicitor David Duncan, defending, told the court Ewan had previous convictions for crimes of dishonesty.

Mr Duncan said: “She was experiencing a number of personal issues at the time.

“She was struggling on a methadone prescription and supplementing that, which led to mental health problems and she was prescribed anti-depressants.

“This, essentially, was a return to her former way of life, without much in the way of explanation.”

Ewan, of St Dennis Terrace, pleaded guilty to one charge against her.

She admitted stealing a pram from Toys R Us, Kingsway West Retail Park, on April 25 last year.

Sentence was deferred until February 24 for reports and a restriction of liberty order assessment.
